Calculation settings

Overtime rules vary. The same hour is never counted as both daily and weekly overtime.

Methodology

How the labor cost calculation works

Paid hours

Shift duration is calculated from start to end time. Overnight shifts are supported, and unpaid breaks are deducted.

Overtime allocation

Daily overtime is allocated first. Weekly overtime is then applied only to hours not already classified as daily overtime.

Estimated cost

Regular hours use the base rate. Overtime hours use the rate multiplied by your chosen overtime multiplier.

Beyond the spreadsheet

Labor cost changes when the schedule changes

Manual estimates become stale

Costs change as shifts move, employees call out, and worked time differs from the schedule.

Overtime risk appears late

Disconnected schedules and time records make overtime harder to catch before approval.

Managers need context

Shiftaro connects scheduling, time clock, approvals, rules, and reporting.
