Why Shiftaro began

About Shiftaro: built for more than the schedule.

Running a shift-based business means coordinating far more than start and end times. Managers need to know whether the right people are available, whether work is covered, what changed, what needs approval, which responsibilities still need an owner, and where an exception could disrupt the day.

Those decisions are often spread across scheduling tools, messages, spreadsheets, task lists, time records, and the manager’s own memory. Shiftaro exists to connect that operating picture.

Built from experience

A company shaped by the reality of running the operation.

Shiftaro was founded by Randy Gauthier after firsthand experience owning a café and managing shift-based teams. The challenge was never simply creating a schedule. It was keeping people, coverage, responsibilities, communication, exceptions, and daily follow-through coordinated while the operation continued moving.

What began as an effort to solve real workforce friction grew into a broader mission: help managers make smarter workforce decisions and carry those decisions through the rest of the operating day.

The operational problem

Managers should not have to carry the entire operation in their heads.

Shift-based work creates a connected set of decisions. When the tools are disconnected, managers become the integration layer.

Staffing readiness

A posted schedule does not always mean every role, location, responsibility, or service area is truly covered.

Decision context

Coverage and approval decisions require availability, qualifications, hours, overtime exposure, overlap, rules, and remaining operational needs.

Communication

Employees need current schedules, assignments, changes, announcements, and direct communication without fragmented follow-up.

Responsibilities

Opening, closing, service, facility, and shift-based tasks still need clear ownership after the schedule is published.

Attendance exceptions

Late arrivals, missed punches, open punches, missed breaks, and corrections can affect the day and payroll readiness.

Manager follow-through

Approving a change is not the end. The updated assignment, communication, tasks, and visibility must stay connected.

A workforce operations decision layer for the full operating day.

Shiftaro connects the information and workflows managers need before, during, and after each shift—so workforce decisions can move from planning to approval to execution without losing context.

Product principles

Principles behind smarter workforce decisions.

Shiftaro is designed around the operating reality of managers and employees—not generic workforce buzzwords.

Swipe through the principles
1

Context before approval

Managers should be able to understand the staffing and operational impact before approving a workforce change.

2

Connected follow-through

A decision should carry through to schedules, assignments, communication, responsibilities, and visibility.

3

Simplicity for the people doing the work

Managers and employees need clear, useful workflows—not more administrative complexity.

4

Product truth over inflated claims

We describe what Shiftaro genuinely supports and build trust through useful workflows, clear boundaries, and honest communication.

The perspective behind the product

Built around real operating problems.

Shiftaro’s direction is grounded in firsthand experience managing the moving parts behind shift-based work. That perspective shapes a product focused not only on what is scheduled, but on whether the operation is ready, how managers respond when conditions change, and how the team stays coordinated through execution.

The goal is straightforward: give shift-based businesses a clearer, more connected way to run the workforce behind every operating day.

A more connected operating day.

Shiftaro extends beyond the scheduling calendar. It is a workforce operations platform that helps shift-based teams coordinate staffing, decisions, communication, responsibilities, exceptions, and daily execution from one connected layer.
